April 1918, on the devastated Western Front, Captain Stanhope leads his exhausted company on an alcohol-fuelled escape. The arrival of Lieutenant Raleigh, a former school friend who is still innocent, actually reveals the deep wounds of war. As the German attack approached, tension and despair crept among them.
