Hannah Arendt
In 1961, Hannah Arendt, a prominent Jewish-American philosopher, was sent to cover the trial of Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann. However, his keen observations reveal something surprising: Eichmann was not a monster, but an ordinary person who obediently buried his conscience for the sake of Nazi ideology. The concept of the "banality of evil" he wrote about sparked a storm of controversy, even being accused of blaming Holocaust victims. In a fierce intellectual battle, Arendt had to defend her thinking - even though the price was very heavy.
