In rural Tennessee, Lazarus, a heartbroken former blues musician, finds Rae—a young woman nearly dead after being beaten. Shaped by a dark past of sexual abuse and neglect, Rae is the "bitch" everyone avoids. However, Lazarus cared for him patiently, taught him the blues and gave him love like a father.
